Conclusion
What we could improve:
On the night of Wednesdays live event, their was a difficulty with the drummer (Dan) arriving at the event due to band complications. We didn't consider this as a problem because Oli was present at the event and he's a skilful drummer. We all suggested that Oli could be the backup drummer for the event and it actually worked out perfectly. Looking back, we solved this problem pretty well, instead of moaning or wasting time we quickly thought of a solution and got it sorted. Wednesday was a success but I feel that there could of been a number of improvements. One of the main improvements in my opinion could of been that we hosted more performers especially on wednesday night. Caleb was absent for our live event so his band (Release) didn't turn up, we did have it planned that they weren't going to perform but looking back we should of had them performing some instrumentals or recorded them jamming.
I would say that both of our live streams should of been edited to make the footage look more professional and straight to the point. Both streams show people going out for cigarette breaks and just general chat so we could of chopped that out and showed the important bits. People are also walking around the rehearsal space while it is recording which dosen't look professional so we could of maybe said that everyone should stay seated or waited outside until the bands have finished performing. We could of also took videos (we did take pictures) of us setting up as the live streams are aired after we've done it.
We are all happy with the fact that we chose to live streams because it is something different and something that you wouldn't usually do as an event. The streams were successful however looking back at the events makes me wonder if we could of done a music video for the song 'Lady' (By Modjo) as I thought our cover was original and had potential.
What we did well:
Our communication skills with each other on both events were really good and positive. We worked as a team throughout the course of planing and performing at the live event and that was defiantly one of our strong points. If we shared a different opinion on something we would compromise and come to a conclusion that everyone agreed on. Our song choices could be an example of us adjusting to our bands different opinions as we decided not to perform 'Age of Consent' (New Order) due to me saying is was far to easy for (2 chord progression throughout) me. We enjoyed each others company but we were to laid-back with each other on occasions so I think our sense of emergency could be improved.
Our health and safety was maintained at a high level because of the amount of electrical equipment around us. Drinks were kept in bags or away from amplifiers and mics to prevent the risk of damaging anything. The leads for the mics and amplifiers could of been placed out of the way more but no accidents happened. All of the amplifiers were at an appropriate level so their was no risk of damaging our ears. The health and safety overall was very good as no accidents happened and we were all in a safe environment. The only thing that could be improved would be stop people walking around the rehearsal space while it is recording which dosen't look professional so we could of maybe said that everyone should stay seated or waited outside until the bands have finished performing.
I think that the Riff Factory provided exactly what we needed in terms of recording the live stream and sound quality. The amplifiers and mics were up to standard and the room was spacious so we good operate easily. Ant who runs and owns the Riff Factory was very pleasant and happy to help during the course of the two nights so a big thanks to him for letting us try out the live streaming function.
On the flip side, we got all the bands to perform that were scheduled too and we organized each aspect of the live streams well. I'm happy with what I did on my night of managing but I do think more bands and artists should of performed on my night. The managing roles were spread but we did find ourselves doing the same roles (like setting up mics/ amps) on occasions so we could of done that better. This could of happened because three of us were managing the event and also we were all trying to do stuff and gain evidence. Our meetings could of been better as we were a bit repetitive and had trouble planning when the events should be, however we did manage to sort and discuss everything out before the events. Overall the events were a success with minor issues and we are all hoping to achieve a good grade.
